New EMC Software Helps Customers Get More Aggressive with Recovery Management Objectives
ORLANDO, Fla.

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today announced a number of new and updated software products that enable customers to improve the recovery objectives of critical applications and data. EMC's recovery management solutions target three pillars in data protection – application-aware protection, disk-based recoverability and enhanced manageability – enabling customers to recover the right data, at the right time, easily and reliably.

The introduction of EMC® Backup Manager for SharePoint software and EMC NetWorker™ Module for MEDITECH provides customers with application-aware backup and recovery of collaborative and healthcare data, respectively. In addition, EMC's new versions of EMC RecoverPoint™ software, EMC Replication Manager software and EMC NetWorker PowerSnap™ Module for Celerra® improve disk-based protection, providing tiered levels of protection and recovery that are aligned to the value of an organization's business data. Finally, EMC NetWorker Dashboard provides easy-to-use reporting and analytics to better understand and manage a NetWorker backup environment.

Mike Fisch, storage analyst with The Clipper Group, technology acquisition consultants based in Wellesley, MA, said, "As disk continues to be leveraged as a primary target for protection and recovery, companies are transitioning from a point-product data protection approach to a cohesive recovery management strategy - leveraging a number of backup, replication and reporting tools. EMC's updates to its portfolio of recovery management software emphasize fast, reliable recovery as the aggregate goal of all protection activities. With these tools, organizations can better align and map recovery service levels, thereby prioritizing data value at a given point in time."

Italian auto manufacturer Fiat has been an EMC Replication Manager software user since 2005 – as part of their information lifecycle management strategy. Pier Carlo Cerrano, Chief Technology Officer of Fiat Auto, said, "EMC Replication Manager has played a relevant role in our trans-continental product lifecycle management strategy, which includes replicating critical SAP databases across a tiered storage infrastructure, including EMC Symmetrix®, EMC CLARiiON®, EMC CLARiiON Disk Library and EMC Centera™ platforms. We're pleased about the introduction of Replication Manager 5.0, which will give us the added support of consistent splits across multiple SAP database hosts for both production and non-production tier II copies, in support of our Symmetrix arrays. This will allow us a further reduction of operational activities, automating and simplifying many procedures."

New Application-Aware Data Protection

Updates to Disk-Based Protection Software

Improved Manageability of Backup Environment

Mark Sorenson, EMC's Senior Vice President of Information Management Software, said, "EMC's new and updated software identifies three areas that help customers improve on their recovery point and recovery time objectives. First, the company is providing application protection for specialized vertical solutions like MEDITECH as well as increasingly popular applications like SharePoint. Also, EMC continues to advance its leadership position in disk-based protection with solutions like EMC RecoverPoint and EMC Replication Manager. Finally, management of the environment – through analysis and reporting – supplies the third critical piece to ensure the highest service levels of recovery are met. By driving these themes, we continue to deliver the most comprehensive offering of recovery management software in the industry."
